Joe, I wanted to drop you a note to express how much I enjoyed our evening
at Chenez. I realize the extra effort you put forth to open for us on a
Sunday evening and cannot express how grateful I am to have had the
opportunity to dine at your fine restaurant. The service was impeccable, the
food divine and all the while you made us feel at home.
I've dined around the world, Michelin 3* to small local places. One thing
I've learned is that while any great chef can serve impeccable food with
beautiful presentations, making guests feel at ease while delivering perfect
service is a rare capability that few master. Chenez has indeed gone beyond
the expected and created a memorable dining event. I've already told
countless other foodies about Chenez and look forward to my next visit to
Park City so I may enjoy your hospitality once again.
Thank you for a beautiful and memorable evening.

My girlfriend and I had a very rich wonderful evening at your restaurant last night. It was an exquisite way to spend the Valentines holiday. We really appreciated the excellent service and delicious food. Thank you for staying open and accommodating us so late in the evening. We were both very delighted with our experience and glad that we had come all the way up from Provo to have such an authentic dinner

Impeccable....need I say more. My wife and I chose Chenez to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The ambiance was very relaxing. The food was prepared to perfection and presented magnificently. The staff was absolutely perfect. Please accept our sincere thanks to everyone at Chenez who made a perfect evening possible.

Splurge: Eat better than you do at home. That won't be hard at Chenéz, Joseph Jafarian's traditional French restaurant on Lower Main Street. The food and ambience are impeccable. The seared foie gras with poached pear is unforgettable. After a meal of monkfish in orange and basil butter sauce, roast duckling or peppercorn-crusted beef tenderloin, order the addictive Grand Marnier soufflé. Jafarian believes the company is an integral part of the meal, and he will indeed keep you company; he personally attends to his guests. Reservations are a must.

Dear Joe and Rachael,
I can’t let a few hours hanging about in the Business Lounge at Chicago
O Hare pass without putting pen to paper and thanking you for your generosity to Dorothy and me. Our meal at your restaurant was certainly the gastronomic highlight of our month in the USA. I had no idea that anything of that quality and ambience existed in Park City. We both wish you well and we will do all in our power to recommend you to others.
Again very many thanks,

Mon cher Monsieur Jafarian;
Many thanks for thinking of us and taking the trouble to send us a copy of your September 22nd menu. The menu contents made us consider getting back in our car and driving up to Park City. The last time we were there we could sample only two items of your extensive menu and there were so many other intriguing items that we wanted to taste ... but could not.
We have mentioned your restaurant to several good friends here in Las Vegas, as well as to several other persons, living in the greater San Francisco area. They are skiers and you will probably be hearing from them, when the season starts.
We would have enjoyed meeting your sommelier Mr. Zev Rovine;
however, I hasten to add that between you and the charming Ms. Rachael, we did not feel deprived, especially on the choice of champagne and Meursault. Our August 15 dinner at Chenez, was the high point of our visit to Park City.
Au revoir,

My hubby and I chose Chenez because it "was supposed to be the best the only French" restaurant in PC. Joseph was right. We dined there on a slow evening and felt like we were dining in Joseph's house. That is how wonderful our experience was. From the froglegs and vichissoise (sp?) to the chateaubriand for two, not to mention the souffle. OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!We clelbrated our 10 yr anniv with the right ppl at the right place. From the glass of bubbly to our good byes I don't think I can come up with a sentence that best describes our experience. This meal will last in my memory forever. This should be in that book, the 1000 things to do before you die.......FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Joseph

HOTTEST dessert: If you’ve grown tired of molten lava chocolate decadence cakes and herb-infused ice cream, we suggest trying on a classic at Chenéz. The crème au caramel and pots de crème are remarkable, but the hottest (literally, since it comes directly from the oven to your table) dessert in town is Joe Jafarian’s Soufflé au Grand Marnier-a cloudlike, ethereal Grand Marnier soufflé for two. Share it with someone special.

We decided to go to Park City this year to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. We were concerned about whether Park City would have a nice enough (four to five start) restaurant to have a romantic dinner at. At the last minute we decided to try Chenez. We were completely caught off guard. Nestled in the shops off of main street was this incredible jewel of a restaurant. Not only was the food incredible, the service was perfect. It was as if we were dining in one of Paris' fine restaurants. The attention to detail was fabulous and the staff was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine selections. We will make sure we dine at Chenez each time we visit Park City.

Chenéz is outstanding for French cuisine. Chenez’s specialties include a braised rabbit with Dijon and thyme and a roasted quail with black current, juniper berry and port wine sauce. This pricy establishment lives up to its reputation.

As a member of the previously mentioned 6 hour dinner I must say that it went by all too fast. Eating at Chenez feels as though you are in the comfort of your home being served by a literal team of fine food and service professionals.

Jeans and a sweater won't cut it at this French restaurant that exudes impeccable style and taste.
Respond to: The Scene One of the most upscale restaurants in Summit County, Chenez prides itself on sophistication, evident in everything from the "no cell phones allowed" sign to attentive replenishment of warm bread. It's cozy and classy and, luckily, there are curtains to hide the tourists strolling along Marriott Town Plaza's concrete walkways outside. The Food For a French restaurant, there's a hefty menu, making the choice between eight appetizers, two soups and five salads difficult. French onion gratinee is to drool over, as are seared scallops glistening in garlic, lemon and butter sauce. For a bit of performance art, order the popular Chateaubriand, carved tableside and accompanied by a slightly sparse portion of tender veggies. Seared elk loin with sun-dried cherry and green peppercorn is served with a demi-glace that enhances the rich flavor of this non-gamey meat. Save room, and time, for dessert. The Godiva chocolate or Grand Marnier soufflé requires 30 minutes to prepare, but it's worth the wait.

My sister and I while on holiday from our respective spouses had the great fortune to be able to dine at your establishment. We would like to say that the ambiance and decore were absolute perfect. Small and initimate but not stuffy. The food quality and presentation were absolutely outstanding. This was our first visit to Park City, but when we return next year it will most certainly be with our spouses so that they may enjoy Chenez as much as we did ! P.S. the service was spot on !

For French, head to Chenéz, which is located at the other end of Main Street in Park City.
There , where restaurateur Joe Jafarian serves as maitre d’, sommelier and garcon, you’ll experience some of the finest French fare this side of the seine, complete with escargots; frog legs; classic onion soup; foie gras; rack of lamb; and trés rich Godiva liqueur-infused chocolate soufflés. And because Jafarian believes that “eating is like making love,” chances are you and your amour will be among the select few couples at Chenéz on any given night. Reservation is required and limited.

We have dinned in restaurants with huge names sucha as Micheal Mina, Charlie Trotter and like, but they do not have the intimate romantic athmosphere that Chenez has. You can never be underdressed at most restaurants in Park City---most, that is, but Chenez. This romantically set, elegant French bistro prides itself on its first-class attention to everything from the warm crusty bread and individual porcelain butter servers to the never-see-drop Grand Marnier soufflé for two. The ceremonial activities of regular restaurants (presentation of food, filling of water and wine glasses, clearing of dishes) go virtually unnoticed, the service is that smooth. The substantial menu makes it tough to decide. Start with French onion soup gratinée or seared scallops in a sauce of garlic, lemon and butter studded with pine nuts? Or maybe the salad of wilted spinach, shrimp, mushrooms, roasted peppers and applewood-smoked bacon? The main courses, too, leave you wondering what to choose: tender, tableside-carved Chateaubriand for two or seared elk loin with sun-dried cherry-and green-peppercorn demi-glace? Everything tastes as satisfying as it sounds.

The service was impeccable. It was as if we were in Jafarian's home, understated and decorated in beiges, rather than a restaurant. Chenez's soufflés with Grand Marnier for two ($28) were magnificent.Presented in simple, white ramekins, they were fluffy with crisp edges and came with Grand Marnier-spiked crème anglaise.

People often ask me about my favorite Utah restaurant. And that’s a tough one. There are lots of restaurant that I like very, very much. And my opinions about which one is best can change from month to month and from visit to visit. But here’s my bottom line: I get reimbursed for most of the meals I eat out by those who employ me to write about them. So when I think about my favorite restaurant, I think about where I’d spend my own money on dinner. The easy answer to that question was Park City’s Chenez restaurant. Looking back on the year, I’ve eaten many wonderful meals in many wonderful restaurants. But none have surpassed the enjoyment that I’ve experienced at Chenez, bathed in the warm hospitality of owner Joe Jafarian and his staff, the restaurant’s unsurpassed elegant ambiance, and the exquisite classic French cuisine of Chef Greg Vincent Grass. That’s a triple threat hard to beat, and why my pick for Best Restaurant is Chenez.

Chenez: French Classics, Done Right, in Park City
PARK CITY -- The wave of French restaurants that have opened in Utah in the past three years seems to have crested, but a last, tiny swell may have left the best in Park City last December.
The elegant Chenez offers classic French cuisine -- none of that American interpretation stuff -- complete with rich sauces, stunning presentations, service that pampers and prices to match.
Chenez is French to the nth degree, a tribute to that country's tradition of fine dining and the hospitality that goes with it. This small restaurant (it seats a total of 36 people in two rooms) is a labor of love for its Iranian owner, Joseph Jafarian, who has been in the hospitality business for two decades in California and Utah, where he managed Park City's Yarrow Hotel among other locations.
Tucked into a row of eateries and shops on the Marriott Summit Watch Plaza, Chenez looks rather ordinary. Even the interior, done in comfortable fabrics in neutral tones, is understated. But that's all part of the plan. The linen tablecloths, cushy upholstery and small paintings are just a backdrop for the main event, which is savoring seared foie gras with pears that have been poached in white wine, a bowl of lobster bisque or tender lamb loin napped with a minted bearnaise sauce.
With the economy faltering and terrorists lurking, dinner at Chenez feels like a time warp. It is Old World-style fine dining, a place where the owner himself shakes out your napkin and places it in your lap, helps you get settled in the chair and seems truly concerned that everything be absolutely perfect. Chenez is pretty close to that, although a few things don't rate a 10: The escargot appetizer could benefit from more garlic, the dressing on the Nicoise salad needs less anchovy, and the squab is a ridiculously small bird for the price, even if it does have foie gras in the stuffing. Another weakness: Our server wasn't familiar with some selections on the wine list.
Still, dinner at Chenez is a treat, mostly because chef Vincent Grass knows not only how to prepare French food, but how to present it. Beef, even the best cut, isn't a natural visual masterpiece. But Grass' chateaubriand becomes a feast for the eyes with its colorful arrangement of vegetables -- tender pea pods, baby carrots, those cleverly carved potatoes and petite zucchini squash. Of course, the meat itself is incredible, meltingly tender and covered with a succulent wine sauce, and carved at the table by Jafarian himself.
Sauces are a hallmark of French cuisine, and Chenez doesn't disappoint. Seared scallopscame with a light and lemony white butter sauce, studded with pine nuts, that had us all but licking the plate. And that foie gras! It is seared, then plated with a wine-infused pear in a splendidly flavored sauce, heavy with oil, that begs to be soaked up with the crusty house bread.
Soups are another French favorite, whether the classic onion topped with browned cheese or a velvety lobster bisque. Choosing between them is difficult, as both are delicious.
The entree selection has good variety, from frog legs and sea bass to medallions of veal, beef filet with foie gras and pork tenderloin, all of them paired with foods that enhance their natural flavor. Pork is sliced and topped with thick wedges of braised apple, while mint adds a distinctive undertone to the lamb's bearnaise. All of them come with beautiful vegetables that make the plate a meal, although it would be a shame to pass on Chenez's salads, whether the winter greens with toasted walnuts, Roquefort and roasted pearor the simple plate of baby greens.
Dessert is another foray into French classics, from a decadent chocolate souffle flavored with Godiva liqueur that must be ordered before the meal is finishedto a lovely creme caramel.
No matter how low the Dow falls, there will always be a market for classic French cuisine and luxurious service. Chenez aims high and hits pretty close to the mark, which means it may be on the way to becoming a classic in its own right.

Joseph,
After having drinks and dessert with you and your companion on Monday evening at Metropolitan in Salt Lake City I returned to my hotel room and immediately checked your website only to find one of the most amazing dinner and wine menus I have ever seen.
I worked in a wine bar and contemporary American restaurant, much akin to Metropolitan, in Iowa City, Iowa for four years as sommelier and bar manager and have grown to have an appreciation for exquisite food and wine. And it is evident that you have much experience with both.
As I mentioned on Monday, I plan to be in the Park City/Deer Valley in March and would love to come to Chenez. In fact, I was just speaking with a colleague who will be in Park City over the 4th of July holiday and recommended she make a reservation at Chenez.
Thank you again for a nice evening of chatting and tasting the delicious food you and your companion ordered. I look forward to my next visit Utah!

BEST RESTAURANT HOST Joe Jafarian (Chenez)
Always outfitted in a perfectly tailored suit and fashionable tie and kerchief, Joe Jafarian greets guests at his Chenez restaurant in Park City with warmth, posh and aplomb. The feeling one gets when walking into Chenez is that you've been somehow mistaken for a V.I.P. But that's the way this not-so-ordinary Joe treats every single guest he encounters--pouring Champagne to kick off an intimate dinner, checking on customers throughout the evening to ensure that everything is just right, serving up souffles for dessert, and generally functioning as your own private valet for the evening. Chenez is never open when Joe Jafarian isn't patrolling the dining room of his extraordinary French restaurant and his hands-on style means that Chenez's owner always has your happiness and satisfaction personally in mind.

Bon Jour Joseph,
We have been coming to Park City for two years now and are convinced that you are the proprietor of the finest establishment in town. We are going to make the Sundance festival an annual event and will visit you each and every time for an exquisite dining experience.
We will possibly be out this summer and look forward to dining with you then. Joseph, while Indianapolis has a few fine restaurants (mostly chains, yuk!) my husband and I have traveled all over the world and we both agree that Chenez is one of our favorites. We brought two couples, on two different occassions on this most recent visit. Both indicated that the food was amazing and the service was unlike anything they had ever experienced. One friend my husband brought on Tuesday (as you may recall I was ill that evening and could not make it, bad lunch at the Hungry Moose) told me that you made her feel very comfortable and while it could have been easy to be intimidated by the menu, you did not make her feel like an uneducated diner as you assisted her with her selections. She said you were extremely gracious. Another friend we brought on Thursday noticed how you observed us from across the room and anticipated every need. He said he never had such fine service. As for me, la foie gras du carnard melted in my mouth, la vin rouge was superbe, the souffle, what can I say, la veau de oscar, everything tres magnifique.
Regarding the salad Joseph, would you share with me the source for the wonderful goat cheese? Merci bien.

We were lucky enough to celebrate our Christmas dinner at Chenez. This lovely restaurant was recommended by local Park City residents, as one of the best. We couldn't agree more. The food was elegant, the experience was freindly, charming and intimate. The wine and champagne selection is terrific. This will become one of our favorite places to visit in Park City in the future.

Joe:
I did not realize the nice article in the Park City magazine until after I dined with you. It sure says a lot about your operation, because you certainly demonstrated it the night we dined with you. I took theliberty of sending a copy to Bob Alter in case he did not see it.
Thanks again.

Joseph,
I have frequented Chenez numerous times within the last couple of years. My background is food and beverage and when I dine out I am frequently reminded of the lack of refined dining restaurants in Park City. When I dine with you I need not ask for anything. Everything is anticipated and carried out perfectly.
I thank you for yet another wonderful night out.
Sincerely,
Leah Jackson

CITY WEEKLY
BEST FANCY FRENCH
If you're looking for French the way Charles de Gaulle would've wanted it, head to Park City's Chenez restaurant where French culinary classics and elegant dining are still in vogue. there's no confusing fusion cooking at Chenez, just timeless dishes like Coquilles St. Jacques, Tournedos Rossini, Sole a la Normonde, Veau Oscar and Chateaubriand. This is the place to open up that bottle of 1900 Chateau Margaux you've been saving.

I had the pleasure of dining in your restaurant recently and can't stop thinking about the incredible food and service. I have been in this industry for thirty years and have eaten in many a fine restaurant but I must say that Chenez is the finest experience in dining that I have ever experienced.

" THE BEST in UTAH. I went two times in two days while I was staying at Park City. VEry nice. Small. But food is just perfect every time. Got to try Lobster Bisque. Duck was better than any I had in any of the French resturants any where. " - hmk

Dear Mr. Jafarian,
We had dinner in your restaurant last week, my in-law and my family. And I just had tell you that my children are still talking about it. We try to expose our children to some of finer things in life because we feel this generation needs that. We also try to teach them to dress for the occasion. But because we were on our skiing vacation, there were no suits or dresses. That is one thing that my daughter felt bad about. She said she wasnt dressed fancy enough. So maybe they are learning something!!!
You have an excellent restaurant and the food was out of this world. And I am sure we will be back next year. We wish you all the best and continued success.

As our society gets busier and our lives more and more hectic, too often we only go out to dinner. Rarely do we go out to dine. I have always appreciated your restaurant reviews and tried to follow-up on some of your recommendations. May I recommend to you a wonderful French restaurant in Park City. Located on lower Main Street in the plaza near the Marriot, you will find CHENEZ.
You have probably already heard of this truly distinctive dining experience. My wife and I enjoyed a most wonderful evening there last week. I had rabbit, my wife had elk!
The owner, Joseph Jafarian couldn't have been more cordial or solicitous. It was an amazingly peaceful and delicious evening! No rush to turn tables, just quiet conversation, light laughter, charming service, and wonderful food! You should check it out and tell everyone!! I know I intend to.

Just a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed dinner the other night. The food and wine were outstanding, probably the best meal we've had in Park City.
